As I continue the lessons, I will be updating the site's design to incorporate what I'm learning. I found the supplied lesson materials matched the book perfectly, something I have not always found, and the exercises were not simple busy work, but true teaching exercises.I'm only part way through the book, but I feel I know enough that I've begun designing my own site. Lesson 2 provides an excellent introduction to the GL interface and structure. One suggestion: if you are a first time user of GoLive (GL), start with Lesson 2 or at least working part way through it. I already own and use some Adobe products, so the interface seemed very familiar to me.This is not to say the interface is simple, and that's where the Class Room in a Book comes in. Macromedia was OK, but I was not at ease with their interface. FrontPage was reasonably priced, but did not offer much in the way of flexibility.

I'd helped put some simple web pages together and realized I do not want to code pages. I looked at other tools like FrontPage, Macromedia's offering and even some HTML editors. I needed a tool to get a personal promotion site up and running. The only thing missing from the classroom experience is interaction with the teacher. My background is hardware bashing, not code bashing or web development.

In Photoshop, click the Edit in ImageReady button at the bottom of the toolbox. Since it is ImageReady and not Photoshop that you will use to add the newsletter navigation button, all you need to do in Photoshop is to hand this file off to ImageReady. The file will open in Photoshop, the default editor for PSD files. In the Extras tab of the site window, select the file webbanner.psd (not the nl-banner.psd file!) inside the Smart Objects folder, and then choose Edit > Edit Original. The first step is to open the Web banner / navigation bar from the main page, and add a navigation button that will link to the newsletter subsection. This navigation bar was created in a manner similar to the creation of the Web banner / navigation bar on the main page in Lesson 5. The nl-banner.psd Photoshop file is a navigation bar, used for the newsletter subsection of the Web site. In the Files panel of the site window is a new folder called newsletter, containing severa171 pages and images. Start Adobe GoLive, and open the file called frameset site.site inside the frameset site folder in the Lesson07 folder. To start off, you will add a new navigation button to the Web banner, to make the newsletter section of the site accessible from the main page. If you haven't worked through those lessons yet, don't worry the necessary files to work with are provided in the Lesson07 folder. In this lesson, you will add the content from the Newsletter designed in Lesson 4 to the Web site created in Lessons 5 and 6.
